Tease Salon

If you want to see what a successful step towards downtown revitalization looks like, take a peek inside Tease Full Service Salon, which opened in October at 429 William Street, between La Bahia Restaurant & Dentoni's Pizza. The 3,000+ square foot facility has been transformed, thanks to the visionary efforts of business partners Kevin Murphy and Sara M. Butcher and the amazing design team at Business Interiors of South Texas.
"We weren't looking to move from our location (formerly Doohicki's) at Gaslight Square," said Owner and Stylist Kevin Murphy, "but when I took one look at the space, I knew we were ready to be back downtown. I love it here." Murphy, a notable local stylist for nearly 25 years, partnered in a salon called Planet Hair that was located in the same space over a decade ago. "It just feels 'right' to be back."
Murphy partnered with Sara Butcher for this venture. Sara, a bubbly beauty with mile-long legs, who is known for her precision cuts and styling, was the burst of fresh, youthful energy that Murphy needed to commit to make the move. "She is a ball of energy with a 'get it done' attitude," says Murphy. That is evident when Butcher gives first-timers the 'Grand Tour'.
"I love coming to work in this beautiful space!" Butcher beams proudly. It's easy to understand why. Dramatic, soaring interiors and soothing colors dominate the open and airy, loft-style space. Mod furnishings, huge tropical plants and intriguing art are dotted throughout the salon, which features space for 8-10 stylists, a Massage Therapist, a Nail Technician and a Facialist. "People are already booking the space for parties!" She boasts. "I guess that means we did something right!"
But Tease Salon is not just another 'pretty face'. The salon also offers a coterie of award-winning services from a team of well-heeled professionals. Alongside Kevin and Sara, you'll find several other recognizable local beauty specialists.
Stylist P.J. Harkins has been been beautifying clients for 36 years, but always keeps her finger on the pulse of the latest trends. P.J. styled hair in Hollywood for many years and has had her hands in the mane's of such screen icons as Meg Tilly, Eric Stoltz and June Lockhart. She has also served as a Guest Artist for international beauty labels like Redkin and Helene Curtis.
Robert Garcia, Stylist and Make-Up Artist, has over 15 years of experience in the beauty business, has worked wtih three Miss USA titleholders and is currently styling MIss Teen Texas USA. During a stint on San Antonio's 'Great Day S.A' morning program, he styled notables including Eva Longoria, Oscar De La Hoya, Matthew McConaughey, Ladybird Johnson and Nellie Connally.
Nail Technician Diana Cruz is a fixture in the Corpus Christi salon scene and has worked as a coveted Nail Technician for 30 years. She closely guards her technique, but it is common knowledge that pedicures and manicures from the specialist are a 'must have' treat.
Stylist Tim Tate has 14 years of hair experience and has worked across Texas in high-end salons like Toni & Guy and Aveda. He also enjoys a second career as a therapist for at-risk youth and will begin training in 2011 as a representative for famous haircare company Farouk.
Tease also features a unique, new service addition - Bleach Bright teeth whitening, offered in-house by Owner/Technician Piper Precious. Piper, former owner of La Femme Boutique, also serves as Kevin's 'right hand' and is also a liscensed Manicurist.
"We are still building our team," says Butcher. "but our great core group from Doohicki's remains. It's important to us to fill the salon with people that really meld well together and contribute to our business and our general atmosphere."
